The correct answer is …
2. The bus has stopped at the roadside and there is a possibility of children around the bus as they get off.
Drivers – look out for school buses
To protect the safety of children travelling to and from school, all school buses are fitted with illuminated signs and flashing warning lights – making them much easier to see, particularly in poor weather conditions.
To make sure school buses stand out:
- Signs must be illuminated at all times when children are being carried to and from school on a ‘school service’.
- The flashing warning lights must be turned on while children are getting on and off the bus and between 4 and 8 seconds after the door is closed.
Most school bus related collisions happen to pupils around the bus rather than on it. When you see a school bus with flashing warning lights please slow down and take extra care. Otherwise a child’s life could be gone in a blink!
