Keep Sharing the Road to Zero

This week (17-23 November) is Road Safety Week in Northern Ireland. Every second and every minute of every day road users face danger on the roads. As recent tragedies have shown road safety is an all year round challenge for every single road user.

Road Safety Week gives us a chance to refocus on what we can all do to Share the Road to Zero; to reflect and think about the devastation we would feel if we lost just one of our family or friends due to a crash; and to ensure that we all target and aspire to zero deaths on our roads.

IS ZERO ROAD DEATHS AN ACHIEVABLE TARGET?

Every road death is one too many.

Over 95% of crashes where someone is killed or seriously injured in Northern Ireland are due to human error and are therefore preventable. Zero road deaths in Northern Ireland is an achievable target if we all drive at speeds appropriate to the circumstances, never EVER drink or take drugs and drive, always concentrate when driving and always wear a seatbelt.
