Do Not Treat Speed Limits as a Target

Now, More Than Ever, It Is Important to Slow Down

All of us can help reduce the strain on the emergency services during the pandemic by taking extra care on the roads. Less traffic on the roads doesn’t mean we should be less careful. With quieter roads we need to resist the temptation to speed.

Drivers – when making essential journeys look out for more people walking, running and cycling on the roads as they practice social distancing. Slow down and give them space. When driving in built up areas, give people walking time to cross the road and, when passing those on bicycles give them as much room as you would when passing a car – a minimum of 1.5 metres.

Take extra care and expect the unexpected. Find out why the speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean that it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of the conditions.

Remember, we all need to do what we can to help ease the pressures on the NHS.

Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we take care when sharing the road.
