Beware the Dangers of Country Roads

Did you know 2/3 of all road deaths are on country roads?

Two-thirds of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions here occur on rural roads. All road users need to be aware of the particular vulnerabilities we all face when we travel on country roads.

Country roads often have sharp bends and poor visibility. Anticipate people walking, horse riders, motorcyclists, and people cycling or slow-moving farm vehicles around every corner, so – slow down, take your time and brake before a corner, not on it.

You should also reduce your speed where country roads enter villages. Watch out for people stepping into the road unexpectedly for social distancing.

As a driver, it is YOUR responsibility to drive at a speed appropriate for the conditions.

Your risky driving catches up with you.
