Drivers - The Highway Code says that all drivers should watch out for particularly vulnerable pedestrians.

Be extra vigilant for people walking home who may not be paying attention to the road; or who might stumble into the road or step out suddenly. People who’ve taken drink or drugs may act erratically, so expect the unexpected! Take extra care in poorly lit areas and on country roads where there aren't any footways.

When planning your night out, plan your way home too.

Just because you’re feeling good doesn’t mean doesn’t mean you should feel safe. One fifth of pedestrians killed have had a few too many. If you’ve been drinking, you’re vulnerable on the roads and could put others at risk. So plan your way home. It’s as important as planning your night out.

Book a taxi in advance, agree a reliable designated driver, use public transport if suitable or arrange for someone to pick you up.

When walking always be careful and be aware of traffic, especially when crossing the road – RESPECT EVERYONE’S JOURNEY.
